Hills Branch Library closes for renovation, reopening targeted for fall

WELLESLEY — The Hills Branch of the Wellesley Free Library has shut its doors for a months-long renovation that will reroute neighborhood borrowers to the main library through the fall, the largest local development on an otherwise quiet Saturday in town.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The Wellesley Free Library confirmed on its homepage that the Hills Branch Library closed for renovations on June 1 and is scheduled to reopen in fall 2026. The main library on Washington Street remains open and continues to handle holds, returns and programming for branch patrons during the project.

The library is also promoting two featured offerings drawing visitors this week: "The Doll E Monologues," presented by the National Black Doll Museum of History & Culture, and "Listening to New England with Mel Allen," both highlighted on the library's program page.

SCHOOLS Wellesley Public Schools continues to flag two items on its district homepage for families heading into summer. Fall 2026 registration is open for new students entering grades K-12, with children who turn 5 on or before Aug. 31, 2026, eligible for kindergarten. The district is also pointing families to its newly approved Competency Determination policy, IKFE, adopted by the School Committee in November after Massachusetts voters removed MCAS as the state's graduation requirement; the policy lays out the coursework pathways Wellesley students must complete in English language arts, math, science and technology/engineering, and — beginning with the Class of 2027 — U.S. history.
